This ascent is best suited for those with previous winter climbing or mountaineering experience. You should be familiar with using crampons and an ice axe. If you’re new to these skills, we recommend taking our Intro to Mountaineering course first.

We provide group climbing equipment, including ropes and protection and personal gear like crampons, an ice axe, helmet, harness. You’ll need to bring personal items like winter mountaineering boots, warm layers, and a backpack. A detailed packing list is available on this page.

The ascent requires a high level of fitness due to the steep, snowy terrain and high altitude. Prior conditioning focused on endurance and strength is essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.

The entire climb typically takes a full day, with an early morning start. We allow time for breaks, adjustments, and scenic views, aiming to complete the ascent and descent within 6-8 hours.

Our guides are certified, experienced in winter mountaineering, and trained in avalanche safety and first aid. They carry essential safety equipment, and we continuously assess weather and snow conditions to ensure a safe climb.

The ideal season for Dragon’s Tail Couloir is mid-spring to mid-summer, typically from April to July, when the snow conditions are most stable the weather is not so cold.

To ensure safety and personalized guidance, we limit groups to 2-3 climbers per guide. This allows for efficient pacing, individual attention, and a safer experience
