No previous experience is necessary! American Mountain School offers courses for all levels, from beginners to advanced climbers. Our expert guides will teach you the basics or help you refine your technique, depending on your experience.
We provide all essential climbing gear, including helmets, harnesses, crampons, and ice axes. You’ll need to wear appropriate winter clothing, including layered, moisture-wicking clothing, a waterproof jacket and pants, insulated gloves, a warm hat, and sturdy boots compatible with crampons. We also recommend bringing sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes.
Ice climbing is a physically challenging activity, but we offer routes and instruction to suit various fitness levels. Beginners can start with easier climbs, while more advanced climbers can tackle more difficult routes. A moderate level of fitness is recommended.

We closely monitor the weather and ice conditions. If climbing conditions are unsafe due to weather, we may need to reschedule your climb. We’ll notify you ahead of time and work with you to find a new date if necessary. However, ice climbing can often proceed in snowy conditions, as long as it remains safe.
